Patterson is a 6-foot-5 swingman from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, who has featured at JP McCaskey High School and St. Benedict Preparatory School in Newark, NJ. He decided to play school b-ball for the Pitt Panthers. As a green bean, he experienced a lower leg injury against Wichita State in November 2009 and missed the vast majority of the period, getting a clinical red shirt. Patterson got back to the court in 2010-11 as a key turn player for the Panthers. As a redshirt sophomore in 2011-12, Patterson turned into a starter, expanding his scoring normal from 2.6 to 9.6.
He finished the season on a high note, driving the group to the 2012 College Basketball Invitational Championship. Patterson found the middle value of 13.3 places, 6 bounce back and 4.5 adversaries and was named MVP.
As a lesser, Patterson helped lead the Panthers back to the NCAA competition. When there, be that as it may, Pitt lost to Wichita State, who in the long run made the Final Four. With the Panthers moving to the Atlantic Coast Conference, Patterson returned for his senior season. Patterson had a breakout season as one of the top players in the association, expanding his scoring normal to 17.1 from 10.0 as a lesser. At the finish of the period, Patterson was named the All-ACC Second Team by association mentors and the media.
